Lure fishing in the Atlantic Ocean
I never did ocean fishing but while preparing for a week beach holidays in Cape Verde , I decided to take some tackle in my luggage. Sitting one week at a swimming pool is not my way of passing my time so I give it a try to fish from the shores of the Lacacao beach.
Our hotel, Riu Touareg, is at the south of the Boa Vista island and situated at a nice sabdy beach. At 1.5km towards the East, there are some cliffs which offer a different biotope to catch different species than at the beach.
From the beach I started catching different fishes with small lures but quickly I learned from the locals that fishing with pieces of fish or crab works much better than my plastic lures.
Lure fishing from the beach:
'Plombeta' or Pompano (Trachinotus ovatus)
Pompano (Trachinotus Phodopus)
Capitain (Galeoides decadactylus)
West African goatfish (Pseudupeneus prayensis)
Fishing from the cliffs:
West African rockhopper (Entomacrodus cadenati)
Snapper(Lutjanus vivanus)
'Plombeta' or Pompano (Trachinotus ovatus)
Moray Eel
